Re-opening of the Farnese Collection

Riapertura della collezione Farnese

the Archaeological Museum of Naples presents a new production of the famous Farnese collection. A large repertoire of antiquities originally intended to decorate the eponymous Roman palace in the Age of Renaissance and Baroque. Then, through a series of complicated events inherited the collection was inherited by the Bourbons and transferred then to Naples, the Royal Bourbon Museum. On display are over 300 sculptures, including masterpieces such as the celebrated Venus Callipigia, the Farnese Atlas, the Tyrannicides, the Hercules and the monumental Lysippus Farnese Bull, as well as a virtually unknown group of marbles, found through systematic research on archival documents and graphic testimony. With new construction the collection relates not only through his works of antiquity, but also the story of two great dynasties through their different culture exhibition. The event is part of the cultural offerings of "Journey to the traditional" route promoted by the Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Campania Region.    Naples    Piazza Museo Nazionale 19    National Archaeological Museum of Naples 0039081292823 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              0039081292823
